Chesapeake Shipbuilding is now hiring an experienced Paint Foreman for a full-time position with a rapidly growing company. Chesapeake Shipbuilding uses airless paint equipment extensively as well as conventional paint equipment.


Preference will be given to candidates with industrial painting experience. We are seeking candidates that have the ability to prepare surfaces for paint and coat to specifications of all applications.

  • Organize and direct crew to complete blasting and painting projects in a timely and productive manner
  • Surface preparation, including but not limited to: sanding, blasting, cleaning, etc.
  • Use coating applications
  • Use both power tools and hand tools in preparing the foundation surfaces for preservation
  • Applying primer and finishing coats
  • Comply with shipyard safety and environmental measures while taking on multiple tasks
  • Effectively lead and mentor crew members towards career and skill development
  • Set up and operation of sandblasting equipment (eg.. Pot tending).
  • Leading the mixing and application of paint to ship parts with brushes, rollers and spray equipment.
  • Operation of man lifts, scissor lifts, and forklifts.
  • Successfully completes sustained work at various heights, including but not limited to, 100 feet, outdoors.
  • Prepares surfaces for painting: cleaning and masking.
  • Application of epoxy, enamel and industrial coatings.
  • Monitor paint application with wet gauges.
  • Read and understand environmental conditions for humidity, temperature and dew point.
  • Maintain painting equipment: hoses, pumps, pressure tanks, spray guns and tips.


  • Knowledge regarding, preparation of carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum surfaces for painting including blasting, wire wheel and grinding
  • Knowledge of SSPC (Structural Steel Painting Council) specifications a plus
  • NACE Level 1, 2, or 3 Certified, preferred
  • NCCER Certified is a bonus
  • Hours: 40-50 hours per week. Standard 8 hour shifts on a 5-day work week with overtime. Candidates will be asked to work day or afternoon shift. Candidates will be asked to work weekends. Normal hours will be Monday-Friday.
