    Growing American Shipbuilding Company located on the beautiful eastern shore of Maryland is seeking an Assistant Controller to handle all accounting functions in our one person accounting department and  implement new systems in order to enhance efficiencies and management reporting.

Our vessels operate all over the world and are suited for inland waterway or ocean service. Our specialization in the design and construction of passenger vessels, tugboats, ferry boats, etc., has enabled us to develop an unrivaled expertise in this field.   


     

    Responsibilities


    • Accounts payable -- Process & ensure that payables are paid in a timely manner.

    • Accounts receivable -- Process & ensure that receivables are collected promptly.

    • Payroll – process weekly payroll

    • Process & ensure all bank reconciliations are completed accurately & timely.

    • Process all General Ledger activity and review for accuracy.

    • Ability to verify, allocate and post details of business transactions to the general ledger.

    • Perform month end close.

    • Maintain accurate contract accounting

    • Issue timely and complete financial statements.

    • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system

    • Create and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.

    • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.

    • Coordinate and assist with detailed annual, quarterly and seasonal budgets and sales projections.

    • Interface with home office located in Connecticut and all levels of management

    • Must be highly analytical, yet strategic and have the business acumen to work with a strong team in a very fast environment.

    • Must have an aptitude and willingness to learn new systems and software

    Qualifications

    Qualified candidates should have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with several years of experience. CPA a plus. Strong preference will be given to candidates with background in job cost/construction accounting. Candidates should be highly proficient in mainstream double-entry bookkeeping software and Microsoft Excel.  Strong preference will be given to candidates with background in job cost/construction accounting.  Experience with QuickBooks Contractor and ADP is a plus.

    Candidates should have a great attitude, be highly organized, be able to pay attention to detail, have strong communication skills and work ethic, and be able to disseminate information to others, effectively and efficiently. Must be highly analytical, yet strategic and have the business acumen to work with a strong team in a very fast environment. Must have an aptitude and willingness to learn new systems and software.
